Join us for a guided tour around Alton’s oldest houses

Built in the 15th Century 8 & 10 Turk Street are two of the oldest remaining homes in the centre of Alton. Enjoy a guided tour, from knowledgable homeowner Martin, as part of Heritage Open Days on Tuesday 15 September. 

The building, now known as 8 & 10 Turk Street in Alton, Hampshire is a rare three-bay hall house dating from the early 1400s. It is unusual to have such a perfectly preserved example of this type of home and even more unusual for such an old house to have survived in a town centre for more than 600 years.

Join knowledgeable and enthusiastic homeowner Martin on a free 30-minute tour of this historic private homes. During your tour you will be able to explore the cottage and learn the stories behind the carpenter’s marks and candle burns previous tenants left on the on the old oak beams. Martin will also show visitors historic alterations that have been made to the buildings over the last 600 years.

Martin is generously donating his time in support of Cardiac Health. Visiting the houses if free, but donations are welcomed.
